It consists of 25 beads and a larger guru bead³. The string is a strong nylon cord and allows for stretching and pulling without breaking. The white bracelet consists of beads that are 10 millimeters and the red and black are 8 millimeters.

1. Water Buffalo Bone

Tibetan nomadic life is hard, and in the cold, there is little to eat. Water buffalo is amain staple of the Tibetan diet and when an animal is used for food nothing is wasted.

2. Impermanence

Bone jewelry is usually worn to remind yourself of the impermanence of life. In Buddhism, it is believed that attachment is the root of suffering. And since nothing in life is permanent, being aware of the fact will reduce suffering.

3. Guru Bead

There is also a head bead, one that is larger than the others, and it is often called a “guru bead.” Some believe that this bead has a special significance, as representing one’s guru, for example, but very practically, this bead is the starting point for the mantras, and is not counted among the 108 total.

Sizing Guide

For a frame of reference a dime is about 18 millimeters. 8 millimeters is a good size for the average wrist. 6 millimeters are usually preferred by women. And10 millimeters are for those that have an average male wrist size but like the look of bigger beads; or for those with above average wrist sizes.
